Amazon Intention Earth Day 2019
Earth Day Intention:
“Our Focused Heart Intention is that the Waorani people are proclaimed guardians of their ancestral grounds and mapped territory. The territory is recognised as giving life to Waorani and contributing significantly to our Global Ecology. The area is no longer called Oil Block 22 and oil exploration and drilling is forbidden. The court decision sets a precedence for all other Indigenous people of the Amazon.”
We, as a collective and as individual seekers are increasing our awareness of the needs of the Indigenous people and the land they live with.
Background for Amazon Intentions:
This excerpt from the “Statement in support of the National March for life, defending Mother Earth and against corruption” was written by the Caminantes Collective, November 2018.
“…The interventions of transnational or state companies and their destructive power, besides negatively transforming the landscapes and physiognomies of the natural environments of the country, deprive the communities of their territories and rivers, interfere and disrupt their lives, the fiber of their social organizational and puts at risk their cultural existence. These effects fall most heavily on women because of their indispensable role at the family, community and social levels.
These natural and social impacts allowed by official institutions reveal the conjugation between extractivism, political violence, appropriation of nature and territories and corporate privatization of the collective. All of which negatively affects the entire country.
In these moments, in which the current government is developing plans to turn over more areas of the Yasuní to oil companies, which will definitively affect the livelihood of the peoples in voluntary isolation, Caminantes rejects the so-called “social dialogue” convened by the government from which, as another form of corruption, confirmed its privatising trend of land, water and nature, and continues to deliver the natural and territorial heritage of all Ecuadorians under its economic model of market articulated to a perverse transnational business system whose only interest is its particular economic returns, to the detriment of human rights and the rights of nature established in the country…”
Last month based partly on the news of the Yasuni court appearance we set the following intention –
Intention Statement: to raise love and awareness for the need to maintain the Amazon with no further destruction and deforestation. All personal involved with policy making and judicial decisions on the use of the land, and the rights of the guardians of the forest, the Indigenous peoples, will open their hearts to the spirit of the forest and will advocate for protection.
Leading up to this Earth Day we hear about the Waorani taking their human rights and demands to court in Puyu. They have been defending their lands from intruders for thousands of years and in particular oil for the last 20 years. I thank Brigid Mary Prain for updates and her assistance to the people. The people have created an International Petition to support their court efforts. This affects all of us. You can follow the Waorani journey and also please sign here.
You can also read quite thorough news reports here:
Very briefly last week the Waorani told their stories in court and on Friday the Government officials defended their positions. I wanted to find out what was happening and Brigid sent me this excerpt of an email response:
“A lot of work, we are fine, we have presented many resources and fundamentals, we hope on the 26th, please vote for Waorani.” this from Oswando Nenquimo, Resistencia spokesperson, this morning. Please go here and sign
Me: So the 26th is after Earth Day. How does this sound? “Our focused heart felt Intention is that the Waorani people are proclaimed guardians of their ancestral grounds and mapped territory. The territory is recognised as giving life to Waorani .The area is no longer called Oil Block 22 and oil exploration and drilling is forbidden. The court decision sets a precedence for all other Indigenous people of the Amazon.”
Brigid added … after giving life to the Waorani… and contributing significantly to our Global Ecology.
And so …
